The Worcestershire Parent Carer Forum (WPCF) represents families of children and young people aged 0-25 with special education needs and disabilities (SEND). Our aim is to ensure that ALL #Worcestershire parent carers have their voices heard and their experiences understood.

We know that families from ethnic and marginalised communities often face additional barriers, discrimination and unconscious bias. These challenges can greatly impact children with SEND, affecting how their needs are identified, assessed, diagnosed and supported. Families may also experience stigma, prejudice, and unfair outcomes. Also, families may struggle to know their rights and access support and advocacy.

To address this inequality, we want to hear directly from parent carers in marginalised communities. WPCF are forming a ‘Marginalised Parent Carer Task Group’ to coproduce meaningful change. This group will focus on the unique challenges faced by families where SEND intersects with other marginalised communities.

πŸ‘‰πŸΎ What will the task group do?

This group aims to offer support, signpost and share knowledge and experiences to help you with your individual SEN journey. It also aims to address the gap we recognise exists in our membership. We aim to recruit parent carers from ethnic and marginalised groups to coproduce our efforts and activities for SEND families in Worcestershire; giving a voice to seldom heard communities. Members of this group will be listened to and valued for their lived experience. You will also be paid for your time.

πŸ‘‰πŸΎ When will the task group start?

Led by WPCF parent carer β€˜rep’ Dawn Styles, meetings will commence in January 2025. Meanwhile register your interest by dropping your name below, emailing us at worcspcf@gmail.com or DM us.
